Towards Penzance

The Cottage is on the South West Coastal Path leading to Loe Bar, narrow shingle bar dividing the sea from a large fresh water lake which the poet Tennyson believed to be the home of the Lady of the Lake and where Excalibur, King Arthur’s sword is reputedly hidden beneath its depths.

A huge 50 ton rock called the Giant’s Rock can be seen at low tide to the west of the harbour and no similar type of stone has been found anywhere else in the country.

Helston, approx 2 miles away is an old market town with a folk museum, library, sports centre and many pubs, restaurants, banks and shops. Helston is well known for Flora Day which is held every year to welcome Spring. The town is decorated with flowers and there is dancing in the streets. This is an immensely popular day and an occasion to remember.

The Tate Gallery in St Ives is only 20 minutes away where Barbara Hepworth’s work is a must to see.

A four mile trip will take you to Poldark Mine which is an original working mine and well worth a visit.

For children, Flambards Theme Park is a very popular visit and is about 10 minutes away. There is something for everyone, including an excellent byegone days exhibition.

A few miles along the coast Praa Sands is a mecca for surfing and other watersports.
